In the four months it has taken for COVID-19 to scale beyond China’s borders in mid January, much has been written about how social distancing is the best vaccine to beat this virus and what better way to social distance than having your own private space.
Here are three lessons the corona virus pandemic has taught us about the importance of private space in the last few months.
- Rent can be expensive
Rent is the biggest bill we pay in households. The past few months have taken a toll on everyone. the economy has slowed down, most employees have lost their jobs with the lucky ones taking pay cuts. If you had your own private property, cost cutting would be much less of a hustle as you have eliminated the biggest bill and you can now concentrate on the other bills without having the worry of shelter. You could also use the private space to earn more money by investing in a business like poultry farming, depending on the size of your property, or grow your own food and save some extra money.
- Shared spaces are shared germs
Germs are everywhere! People carry germs without even knowing it. Shared spaces means germs are spread at an alarming rate. The COVID – 19 virus has shown us what risk we pose to ourselves when we don’t take care of our hygiene which is never really the case in shared spaces especially when it comes to raising kids. Having a private space helps you have a peace of mind that you will not come into contact with germs that have been carried by strangers.
- Staying in the house is boring
How long can you really stay in your own house? The ministry of health directed everyone to stay home and go out only for essentials so as to curb this pandemic. This made many people to work from home with the kids also home since the schools are closed. Kids can’t really stay put for more than a minute, making it harder for the adults to work which leads to a stressful environment. Having your own private space means being able to have moments of stress relief as you bask in your private property and the kids can play outside and get the much needed exercise instead of being glued to the screen.
As we (soon, hopefully) put COVID-19 in the history books, it’s important to remember the lessons learned from this pandemic. Planning for the future with the information we gleaned from this crisis may be the key to survival for tomorrow.
